Frequently asked questions

Are these bulbs CANbus-sensitive on the Nissan Leaf?

This car is mildly CANbus-sensitive. Nissan electronics are only mildly CANbus-sensitive. Note the Nissan Leaf already ships with factory-fit LED cabin lighting on higher trims - the swap only matters if you have an entry EV trim with halogen bulbs (which are increasingly rare on new EVs).

What colour temperature works best inside a car?

Around 4000-5000K neutral white is the sweet spot for reading a map or a phone screen without eye fatigue. 6000K daylight-white is brighter but harsher; 3000K warm-white can be too dim on cheap bulbs.

Do interior LEDs need a resistor kit?

For interior bulbs, usually not; CANbus errors are far more common on exterior turn signals than dome or map lights. On more sensitive VW/Audi/Skoda/Cupra cars a CANbus-decoded bulb removes the risk with no downside.

Are LED interior bulbs road-legal in the UK?

Replacing an existing interior socket (dome, map, boot, glovebox) with an LED of the same size and voltage is not restricted by MOT or Construction and Use rules the way exterior lighting is.

One thing many buyers miss

Mixing LED and incandescent bulbs in the same cabin looks obviously wrong once the doors are closed at night. LEDs are commonly 6000K bright white; the stock incandescent bulbs are 2700-3000K warm yellow, and the eye reads the two together as one bulb having failed. Swap the whole cabin in one go - dome, map, vanity, boot, glovebox - rather than one bulb at a time, and pick a single colour temperature across the set.

How to check before ordering

  • Pop one existing bulb out of the Nissan Leaf first and read the code (194, T10, festoon length) printed on the metal cap.
  • Test a single new bulb in the dome fitting before ordering a whole kit, which catches CANbus flicker on a car that is mildly CANbus-sensitive.
  • Choose one colour temperature across the whole cabin so paired bulbs look right when both are on.
