Five things to know before you buy phone mounts for the BMW 1 Series

The F70’s curved OLED display dominates the top-of-dash. BMW’s iDrive 9 curved screen extends from behind the wheel to the centre stack. A dash-top mount above the screen line looks out of place and can block the driver’s forward sight line. Below-screen or lower-centre-stack placement is cleaner.

Vent slats are horizontal on the centre vents. Universal vent clips designed for vertical slats do not grip. Buy horizontal-slat-compatible clips.

Every UK 1 Series has factory wireless charging. The centre-console pad handles Qi charging without needing a wireless mount - a magnetic or MagSafe mount is for viewing angle only.

The dashboard is soft-touch across all trims. Sport, M Sport and M135 xDrive share the same dash texture. 3M VHB adhesive pads bond well; cheap gel pads leave residue.
